From starting out at the bottom of the pile as a junior reporter at my school's newspaper, to freelancing regularly for a number of national and regional outlets, I've accumulated more than three years experience in journalism.
During that time I've had the privilege of working on a number of exciting projects. From interviewing the Speaker of the House of Commons on the political impact of Brexit, to sitting down with the brave survivors of police perpetrated domestic abuse – I've proven my tenacity as a journalist who is able to fulfil a variety of briefs.
I'm incredibly organised, work well under pressure and have a track record of sourcing compelling and exclusive stories that are well researched and feature hard-to-access case studies, to name but a few things. Having found myself focusing primarily on news, at the start of 2021 I set myself a new challenge and began to delve into issues specifically through the lens of human interest.
Since then I haven't stopped, and I've produced a number of award-nominated pieces including a long-read on the growing number of renters opting to swap bricks and mortar for a life afloat in a bid to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, deep-dive investigations into the devastating impacts of Universal Credit on families facing homelessness, reports on the human consequences of asylum legislation, and feature pieces on the brave LGBT+ Afghans fighting against brutal Taliban persecution.
In March 2023, I was 'highly commended' in the Podcast of the Year category at the National Council for the Training of Journalists' Awards for Excellence for producing an audio documentary charting the incredible journey of an American jazz musician and his attempts to de-radicalise members of the Ku Klux Klan.
I was also 'highly commended' in the London Press Club's Hugh Cudlipp Student Awards for an exclusive investigation into the effects of police perpetrated domestic abuse following revelations of former Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick's horrific crimes.
Meanwhile, in June 2023, I was nominated for Best Investigation at the inaugural Freelance Journalism Awards for my deep-dive into the crisis facing trans and non-binary adults trying to access gender affirming care on the NHS.
